chargepoint 32A EVSE charge cord

Well, I couldn't resist upgrading from my Volt Clipper Creek LCS-20 to the chargepoint 32A home charger (on sale now, not a lot, but 20% off).

It was a bit of an effort to run a heavier cable (went very conservative with a spare length of #6), fortunately I was an electrical guy, so installation only cost a Sunday afternoon.

The chargepoint connects to home WiFi and gives some nice graphs and data, examples here from a short drive and re-charge this evening

I bought one too, have a Clipper Creek HCS-40 I use with my Volt and bought the Chargepoint for the Clarity PHEV. I really like either, although the Chargepoint is nice due to the data it collects and it has a nicer appearance.

Either EVSE charge the Clarity at 7.1 or 7.2 KW with my voltage around 244 V (current just under 30A). My Clarity so far has charged in less than 2 hours, but have only had 1 full charge and that was on the Clipper Creek so don't know how long it went. I should get another full charge today on the new charger so I can see how much it takes, both time and KWH.

I love the faster charging of the Clarity. For a while I defended the Volt's slow charge rate of 3.6 KW, as a PHEV doesn't really need more, but after having the faster rate I wouldn't go back. I still have my Volt though, the wife drives the Clarity. I am stuck at the slower rate and smaller battery (2012 Volt).

Poor guy. You'll never get that Clarity back.
 
How do you get that 30 day energy graph? I am using ChargePoint App on my Android Phone and dont see that.

Chargepoint webpage on my imac. After logging in, "Dashboard" tab shows power vs. time, and "My Stats" shows the bar graph.

Finally have the 40A 240V Level 2 charge station up and running. We recharged the car today in about 1 1/2 hours. Obviously it wasn't fully depleted.

In this photo the 240V outlet, and JuiceBox is on the left. The white box on the right is the new solar system waiting for final inspection before we can turn it on. On many days our charge costs will be zero with the new system. We installed solar for the house power, charging the car is a bonus.

My next project is to run the cable overhead, dropping down between the two cars. That way it will be handy for the driver to plug in. I have a plan to use a Tool Balancer to retract the plug when not in use. If it works out I'll post on that subject next week.

The JuiceBox has WiFi but apparently not the nice graphs of the ChargePoint.
 
Nice! Does your solar panel system have any computer reporting?

I run 28 LG panels with the Enphase system over here. So far covers all my needs with enough credits left over in the winter for a little guilt free supplementary heat in the room I'm in. I have a variety of the Delonghi heater types, nice equipment! Our credits don't roll over here, so whatever excess credits I don't use by March go back to the power company.

Yes the system has WiFi. However the system isn't turned on yet as it is waiting for final inspection and the power company to change the meter. Also, wouldn't you know it, the WiFi module was missing from the box so I won't be able to view data and graphs until next week when they install it.

Our system consists of 18 panels, 365 watts each, for 6.5KW. The really good news is the power company is charging $0.15/KWH but also pays that amount for power we feed back to the grid. We will balance accounts with the power company once a year when we will have to pay for any imbalance in their favour. Like your situation they will not pay us if we use less power than we produce (not likely).

Redding, CA is the second sunniest city in America after Yuma, AZ. Solar makes a lot of sense here. We've calculated an 8 year payback. But it is also hot in the summer. We may have three weeks of over 100 degree highs each day. The outside temperature may not fall below 80 degrees overnight. The air conditioner runs 24/7 for about 3 months. During those months we'll be buying some power from the grid.
 
Great set up!

We placed a down payment on a Tesla Solar Roof when they launched the product line, but are definitely not holding our breath for an early roll-out in the NW.
 
We noticed that there are lots of ChargePoint units without charging cable listed on Ebay. Why is that? We like the ChargePoint 32amp charger, but concern if the quality of the charging cable is not good. Thanks.
 
I noticed that too. It may be because ChargePoint offers two different lengths of charging cable.
I have the 32 amp ChargePoint and I can assure you that the cable is very high quality. No worries on that issue.
I bought an open box on eBay and the charger wall unit was boxed by ChargePoint separately from the cable/handle.

PS: My ChargePoint is working perfectly. I especially like the software tracking and the very small footprint of the wall charger. Also it’s the only charger that is Energy Star rated.
