Okay, traded in a 2019 Countryman and got our 2022 SE today and the most notable thing is that the CarPlay is stuck in fullscreen mode. Which, while it looks cool ends up losing a lot of functionality.

If I hit ‘Options’ I can see that there is a split-screen option grayed out (I was able to turn it on in another menu and it shows the status of the setting - it’s currently checked) but CarPlay doesn’t seem to honor the setting.

Looking at YouTube videos (usually from Mini) all the ones that I’ve seen show the split-screen mode. Of course, this isn’t the same as Apple’s own split-screen within CarPlay.

Without split screen I can’t see what music is playing while the map is up so it’s really annoying to be missing it!

Anyone know if it’s supposed to be like that or is something screwed up?

Here’s what it looks like. Sure the map is nice but it’s a whole lotta map.

Oh the irony. My 2021 SE won't do full-screen CarPlay, and I'd pay any amount of $$ to get that functionality.

Hi, you can have CarPlay fullscreen also in 2019-2020 cars, you have to update the headunit software to the last istep; it isn't easily, e-sys, pszdata libreries and some skills are required!
I've already update my Mini Cooper SE software to the last 2021, it's an intersting improve!

What's holding me back is finding out how to do it myself, or finding someone to do it. I haven't been able to convince my dealer yet. They claim they just plug into an update machine and it gives the latest of whatever version your car has.

The thing is I want it to be NOT fullscreen. It's just too much CarPlay. I liked having the media view in the split screen. You can sort of do that with the Split Screen in CarPlay itself, but the version that the older Mini software did was much better.

With the last software version, CarPlay it’s fullscreen, so if you have it, it’s easy to activate it..
However every modification can compromise the warranty..

Note: Last software version is: 002-156-007

I have the latest. The problem is I don't want it fullscreen. I want to be able to do the Mini-based Split-Screen that I had in my 2019 Countryman. CarPlay seems to have gone to fullscreen or nothing which is definitely currently my #1 annoyance with the new car!

As far as I have seen in settings, there is no way to make CarPlay go split screen with the Mini screens. With the decent screen size, that would be a decent feature for them to enable from the Countryman version.

Hi, sorry I misunderstood your previous question..
However you can’t downgrade the mini software but you can try to code the headunit with the old settings (type code and date).
