I live on wet salty Long Island. I periodically have to do the Neutral trick to clean my rotors. Do any of the service intervals address the rotors specifically ?

Regen comes on at all times except when the car is placed in neutral. Ed was saying he does it to clean his rotors. See link @ 16 minutes for explanation...

What does the service schedule in your owners manual say?

Mine says inspect rotors and pads every 12 months/15,000km. But I don't live in a salty environment so yours might be different.

Here are my rotors at 50 thousand kilometers behind them:

Rear:

Rear are definitely under-utilized and need some more "manual" breaking by shifting to Neutral to clean up the accumulation of rust.

Rusty rotors are normal. If you are not getting any shuddering with hard braking they are fine.

The only part of the brake system you need to worry about rusting is the parking brake, which you should use all the time to keep it moving and functional.
