Considering that the electric motor is heavily involved in slowing the vehicle, one might conclude that race car quality friction brakes wouldn’t be necessary on a mid-sized sedan that has regenerative braking capability.

Honda may have made a metallurgical miscalculation when they designed the rotors. Have you had premature failure of rotors on other vehicles?
No, I've never before had problems with brake rotors rusting, but I've driven all my previous cars much more frequently. I've read that some Civics had problems with the rear brake rotors rusting, so Honda is aware of the brake-rotor corrosion problems their cars experience.

Is brake-rotor rusting a problem car collectors experience if they're not rich enough to have a climate-controlled garage?
