Battery Recall for Canadian Kona Owners

Yes, I'd like to understand that. The card in spokes sound is almost at an unbearable level now, and almost always on regen, so I suspect the bearings in the reduction motor are shot. Gets very high pitched at high speed and quite loud clacking at low speed. My dealer did say that when they install the motor mounts, if they feel it won't solve the problem, they just order the parts for the next remedy right then and there, so I am happy I don't have to live with it as it gets worse to prove anything to the dealer.

At least I can now charge to 100%, so the end of the battery saga has come for me.

I did ask about the $5/day and the service guy said he thought that went through Hyundai Canada and not the dealer. He's looking into it for me, but just one more hurdle.

I think it has to be submitted by the dealer, same as the $250 gift card. Did you get that?
 
Finally got my battery "inspection" done today. Battery is now ordered. No idea about how long it will take.
After waiting for these eight months since the recall for my dealer to do something I was finally contacted by a dealer 75km away. Turns out that the regional service rep (who handles corporate relations for several dealerships) decided that my dealer was never getting the battery lift so if I was ever going to get served I'd need to move dealerships. The new dealer has already done 10 replacements so at least they'll have experience! Trying to look on the bright side.

That's awesome news! I told by my local dealer that they would not be contacting me for this work, it would be the importer directly.

Where are you getting the job done at?
 
We sure get different stories from the dealers. My dealer told me the Hyundai Canada initiates all recalled battery issues and sends the dealer a list of upcoming replacement batteries with VIN numbers already assigned. They called me to say the battery was in, and two days later It was installed. No battery inspection as far as I know.

Yes, there is a list provided by Hyundai of affected VINs. The dealer merely confirms the VIN match and apparently pulls some info via the data port (no idea what info or why) and also photographs and forwards the label and barcode on the original battery assembly. After that the battery is ordered by the dealer and it is shipped from Mobis/LG directly to the dealer. I'm thinking that for some batteries and for some dealers the VIN match is enough to initiate the order while others are going more "by the book". I also think we've seen enough evidence that there is a "definitely replace" list, a "could be necessary" list and then a "nope" category. The data port information MAY be to decide about which way the "could be necessary" ones tip?

Finally got battery replaced in 2019 Kona Ultimate EV, after 4.5 month of the vehicle being in the shop, out of service!

Here's the story: back in June 2021, car ceased to function in our driveway. Warning message on start re BMS failure. Diagnostics indicated failed primary battery. This was after vehicle had been set to 80% max charge due to recall notice. Car had to be dragged onto tow truck trailer and taken to local dealer. Replacement battery was unavailable from Hyundai until late Oct. 2021.

Poor service overall from the local Hyundai dealer and from Hyundai Canada! Consistently didn't return calls or emails until late in this episode. Would not provide regular updates despite promises made. Finally, locals did not have the equipment required to do the repair (that last bit isn't their fault; Hyundai was unable to supply), so battery replacement was done by out of town larger dealership that had it. Hyundai was uncommunicative throughout. Local dealership really would never take ownership of the problem and help.

And, no surprise, $200 rebate is currently "in progress" along with $5/day compensation from Hyundai. Maybe I'll see it some day... at least the out of town dealer has been helpful digging up info about that.

Well, I'm in the market for another EV. Whadya think the chances are that it will be a Hyundai via the local place? I would say close to ZERO! Sure there are supply chain issues, but part of the standard way in customer service to address those is to keep the customer informed, which both the local dealer and Hyundai Canada failed to do. Would have been so easy, alas.

Solid! Maybe the 75km drive will be so fun that you will switch dealers permanently lol.

FYI: just had my battery swapped-out in Kamloops today. Apparently/I was told that Hyundai Canada is ‘pumping the brakes’ on any further installs until the new year. Might be supply chain issue(s). I bought mine in August of ‘19 and was apparently 10th or 11th on the list for replacement and just made it in before they (apparently) pushed pause.

Wow Dat sux, just what I suspected.
I'm so glad, I hounded them about this and got it swapped out.
But at this stage , it will most likely be the last Hyundai I'll buy.
 
According to my calculations today's the day that every Canadian Kona EV owner whose car is recalled but has not yet received a battery is entitled to the full $850 payment!

I'm getting my tires swapped out next Wednesday and will be asking my dealer to take steps to claim it.
