Battery fire

OK let's be clear here. It was not the traction battery which caught fire. It was the 12V battery which I believe is lead/acid. These can give off hydrogen gas when being charged from a very low state. It wouldn't need to have an internal short circuit (although it may have) to cause an explosion. Hydrogen gas wafting into the pilot light of a gas appliance would do it. Of course because a Tesla was involved it makes for sensational news once again falsely promulgating the idea that EVs catch fire more easily. If it was an LI battery then a bad cell may well have been the cause.
