Is a faraday bag the only option to lock up the car?

If you lock w the removable key, you still need to block the fob from allowing someone to hit the button and unlock the car.

Thought about not bringing the fob, but you can't start the car with the removable key (it's not a valet key).

You’ve piqued my interest. I got a dry pouch for my iPhone to protect it while swimming in the Devil’s Pool atop Victoria Falls, but never used it as the guide kept all our phones and cameras in his own dry bag, then retrieved them one by one to video and photograph us as we swam individually in the Pool. I did bring my GoPro Fusion 360° in the pool and got some great shots, but in hindsight I’d have liked to have iPhone in the water as well. Now you’ve made me realize I can’t store the MINI’s fob anywhere I might have hidden a key before. I originally looked at the Kguard when we got the Subaru a couple years ago, but in the interim it has garnered too many negative reviews (with accompanying photos of ripped silicone).

First, use Bimmercode to disable the unlock/lock automatically. You just have to do this once.

When you get to your destination and want to lock the car but leave the keyfob inside, do this:
- Turn off car
- Hit the lock door button
- Remove the key from the keyfob
- Put the keyfob in the glovebox
- Open the driver's door (the passenger's door and hatch now remained locked)
- Close the driver's door
- Lock the driver's door with the key
- Put the key in a safe place but it can get wet

I do this multiple times a week when I go to different parks to run.

This is a keeper. Thank you. I had believed that leaving the fob in wouldn’t allow the door to be locked, regardless if by key or by button.

But doesn’t this mean that Auto Unlock/Lock is permanently deactivated?
Yes, which I also prefer. When you turn on the car and start going, the doors don't lock. When you then turn off the car, it doesn't automatically unlock. If the driver's door is locked and you try to open it, it will still automatically unlock but only the driver's door.

Thanks, Jon. Didn't think to disable it in bimmercode. Will do.

I don't use a faraday bag and when I manually lock the door with the key, the lock/unlock buttons on the doors seem to be disabled. I thought all cars did this. I had an Infiniti G37 and Mitsubishi EVO that both disabled the keyfob when you lock the door manually.
