Another preconditioning woe

I know there is another thread on this but it was for a different issue.

Everytime I remote precondition the car, the front windshield fogs up. This is quite annoying since sometimes I am trying to leave in a hurry then I get in and it’s totally fogged up. Then I spend a few minutes with front defogger on high with heat.

Is there any remedy to this ? Does preconditioning work with the window slightly cracked open ? I do leave the climate on auto everyday
 
With the air condition running strong and high humidity outside, is the window fogging up on the outside? Air conditioning defogs windows inside. If it is outside, doesn't the wipers clear it up?
 
The moisture is inside. Although I know what to do once I start the car it’s definately a nuisance. And it has happened everytime. I think I’ll try with a little bit of window open so it doesn’t condensate inside. It is 86 Fahrenheit in Toronto right now so maybe I’ll try to use it when it cools down.

You are correct. I was wrong.

From the manual
The climate control system does not operate when
any of the following conditions are met.
• A door or the hood is not closed.
• The power mode is set to any mode other than
OFF.
• The brake pedal is being depressed.
• The High Voltage battery level is low.

Or keep some dessicant in the car somewhere
 
I thought the whole purpose of AC was to dry the air.
If that's not happening, then maybe it's not warm enough inside or out for the AC to start or continue running.
I noticed my car cycles the compressor with the cabin fan on when temps fall on the border.
In other words the cabin fan stays on during pre-condition and air cycles between cold/dry sometimes and just ambient others.
If it's really hot outside or inside, the AC stays on the entire pre-condition cycle.
What I would like is more control on the pre-condition cycle parameters.
OP should be able to clear windows with pre-condition using AC and/or heat if necessary when temps are moderate but humidity is high.

condensation happens with warm humid air cooling. The more humidity the more condensation. It may be better to just hold the unlock button on the remote and let all the windows down before entering the car. Because you have little control over the preconditioning. Or if its that important you could try turning it on sooner to give more time for the temperature desparity on the windows to neutralize. That should help..
 
With preconditioning, does the climate control run in recirculation or fresh air mode? If it runs in recirculation mode then the glass would fog up inside wouldn't it?

Even if it is in re-circ, shouldn't the A/C remove the humidity? I guess if the A/C is really fast cooling down the car and the window fog up initially, it should clear up in a couple of minutes
 
If the AC is running, it will dehumidify on re-circ or fresh.
Pre-conditioning doesn't guaranty heat or AC will come on.
Depending on ambient temperature, the AC or heat may cycle on and off during pre-condition.
If the AC is cycling, it will not dehumidify effectively.
One test would be running AC while driving and look for windshield fogging.
If that doesn't happen, then it's something unique to pre-conditioning.

I've found that it doesn't fog up when I'm driving because I always drive around in AUTO climate control. Thus, it'll always be recirculating. However, it fogs up whenever I precondition. I've resorted to not using preconditioning anymore. I'll just use it in winter.

In auto setting this summer with temperatures requiring AC, I have noticed that the auto climate control (green led illuminated in temperature knob) will sometimes select fresh. I assume it’s doing this based on its temperature sensors and humidity sensor(s?). It does not always stay in recirculating.
 
I'd also make sure when you park that you don't leave the climate control in the defrost (windshield) mode. When the climate control activates, it operates on whatever the last setting was. If you have the setting to the front vents, I can't imagine how the windshield would be affected.

I never use the front windshield defrost. Maybe I will manually select AC and fan speed and see if that will cool my car instead of using Auto all the time.
