ZA0 platform, taking hints from the i3/iX Neue Klasse platform, will feature upwards of 1000hp and full EV architecture. There will be a gas model as well running in parallel with a likely electric assist of some sort.
If the BMW i3's standard steering wheel (left) is so great, why doesn't doesn't the iM3 concept steering wheel (right) have vertical bars?
For the i3, I wish BMW would prove they believe the vertical-bar wheel is superior by making it the extra-cost option instead of asking more for a regular wheel. Will the entry-level X40 i3's wheel have additional vertical bars? Perhaps BMW ran out of money in their focus-group budget?
My guess is the concept wheel is more about emphasizing the performance identity of the car than proving one design is objectively better. It wouldn't surprise me if BMW ends up offering multiple steering wheel designs depending on trim level and buyer preference.

Yes, the M Sport trim includes a more conventional steering wheel that wouldn't hurt my eyes every time I got into my i3, but that trim package costs a lot of money and includes other things I don't need. Despite the steep cost, I believe the standard steering wheel will sell many M Sport trim packages.
