2024 MINI Cooper SE Prototype Test Drive

Don’t mean to be a downer, but 3500 lbs is a no for me dawg. Give me less weight even if it means less range.

I sure hope they include a firewall between motor inverter and passengers. I took the rear cover off of my i3 and it is not a pretty sound!

Rather than rely on bench-racing "logic", I suggest simply viewing a few YouTube videos.

Continuing on this theme:

Interesting to note how the SE is neither the fastest off the line - due to the torque being electronically muted at first - nor does it have the highest power-to-weight ratio. The test was at altitude, but OTOH the SE's battery was only at 60%.

Missing from the comparison is a hot lap in the SE, but it seems that odds are it would have been 3rd.

Keep in mind crash and safety standards. The weight of structures needed to pass US safety standards could add considerable weight.

Those specs were for the UK Ora Cat so I assume they have similar crash requirements to the US (if not more strict)

Is that SE riding Crossclimates?? I’d bet on F1s or other performance summers it might hit the limiter before the line.

Still don't understand how they are planning on getting around the EV tariff on Chinese built electrics if they are actually bringing this to the US. It will need to be de-contented or not compete on price with similar vehicles. I believe it's like 27 percent.

I believe it's 0% for ones with free trade agreements, 2.5% for most favored nation (MFN), and 10% for general rate. Right now there's a rate for EPA<250 miles and EPA>250 miles but they are same rate. There must be some significant cost savings in China to lower the value before the ad valorem tariff is applied.
