2022 Niro EV listed at dealerships already. 2021 is the shortest model year ever?

So the 2022 EX now gets a standard 10.25" display with HK sound system and more safety features.

"Almost all of the safety features come standard on the cheaper EX model. They include forward collision warning/avoidance, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic detection, lane keeping, lane following, adaptive cruise, highway driving assist and driver attention warning. The EX Premium adds reverse park distance warning." - from Carbuzz

The MSRP is quoted as 44,545 for an EX from the West Hills dealer site.
This car has a lot of EX Premium features. For example, heated seats, power seats, and navigation package. I guess that's why it has a higher price.

InsideEVs just published a piece about the 2022 Kia Niro EV and apparently the price is going up a bit. Kind of weird, since the price of the Hyundai Kona Electric went down.
Unfortunately, the entry-level trim version is now $900 more expensive ($39,990 compared to $39,090 in 2021 MY):
  • EX: $39,990
  • EX Premium: $44,650
I wonder if the Kona price went down because of all the battery problems.

You follow cars a lot more closely than I do so I’m inclined to trust your judgment of this is weird. Is it possible that Niro could have different supply chain issues than Kona?

Can it just be supply and demand? I’m seeing a heck of a lot more Niro EVs on the road lately. His popularity suddenly spiked?

I'll say that in addition to Niro EVs, I'm just seeing Niro's everywhere. It's pretty crazy, considering I viewed them as quite rare just a year or two ago.

Kona's on the other hand... I feel like they're still quite rare. If I had to guess, the Kona's size is a little less popular.

Here in New Jersey I'll bet I see 3 to 5 times as many Konas as Niros in general. And I would say the same ratio for the EV models too.

According to Kia's website there are 8 Niro EV's available at dealers within 100 miles miles of me. The same statistic for Kona EV's is 835!
