Would the Mini SE load a software update affecting driving controls on its own? I've detected a change in behavior on active cruise control. As I've reported in the past, if the camera system lost tracking (sunlight low on horizon and flashing shadow conditions) it would pop a message on the central display and the instrument cluster about the active cruise being disabled. You would have to acknowledge an "OK" on the central display.
Twice this week, while using ACC, it suddenly popped a message only in the instrument cluster saying "vehicle detection degraded". When it happened today, the sun was NOT low on the horizon, but there were tree shadows flashing by. I have not seen this particular message before this week, and the confirmation message did not appear on the central display like it used to. Today there was no car behind me, so I just waited to see what would happen. The cruise indicator on the instrument cluster remained "on", and the Mini came to a complete stop.
I just thought it was odd that the software seems to have changed. And I'm not terribly impressed with the overall performance of the ACC compared to other cars we have with adaptive cruise. The follow distance features are fine, but it loses active tracking too often.
