2022 LED tail lights?

Hey guys, new to the forum and new to Mini in general. Have a 2022 Cooper SE (Signature) awaiting carrier assignment!

If I've done my research right it seems that US spec cars get red turn signals in the tail lights. What I'm wondering is, are the tail lights LED still? I'd like to swap on the European spec tail lights with amber turn signals, and looks like if they're LED already it's an easy swap. Link below for what I'm looking to swap on...Any insight is appreciated!

Welcome to the forum! I think I traded comments with you on my Mini SE channel!

Still LED’s. If you put the uk spec lights on, then you will have the amber horizontal bar as well as the red vertical bar flashing, which would seem illegal. I know some states don’t allow for an amber signal either, I think?
If you just wanted the amber horizontal to flash, then you would have to code the diagonal brake light out ( not to come on with indicator anymore) Is that right?
These are 2 video’s. First is the U.S light, 2nd the UK lights.
On the first video, its about the 5min mark.

Alright I see what you're saying now. In the US the entire T section is both the brake and flash signal. European cars have the vertical as the brake, and the horizontal as the flash. Thanks for helping clear that up.

You're definitely right, I wouldn't want the red vertical and amber horizontal section to light up at the same time as a brake light (or flash signal for that matter). Confusing, and likely illegal anyway.

Now the question becomes if which sections get powered on is handled within the light assembly, or separate programming? If anyone knows this please feel free to share wisdom.

Its not done in the lights, it’s programmed separately.
If you need to change any settings, you would need a programme like Bimmercode to set the lights properly. I think it might have been looked at before on this forum.

That's what I was more or less assuming too...

I was able to dig up one thread on this exact changeover (US LED to UK LED) on another forum. The amber lights do not light up at all, but the vertical sections do for the brakes. So it should just be a matter of changing the coding for the flash signal. I'll give it a whirl once the car comes in...

Good to hear:)
NorthAmericanMotoring forum had quite a bit on this topic if I remember right. But I’m sure by the time you get your motor, others will have joined the discussion. There’s some good Bimmercoders on here so you won’t go far wrong.

Appreciate the tip. I'll scope out over there. I'm hoping with a little bit of research and some guys with good understanding of coding it won't be too bad. I'm determined to get it to work!
