2022 Cooper SE Electric Tire Press Monitor Sensor Part Number?

I had Costco put some of their generic ones in my second set of wheels when I had snow tires installed. They work just fine for about 1/3 of that price.
 
As I understand it, I don’t believe VW uses in tire sensors. They compare the ABS sensor reading to the speed sensor to detect the speed difference of a low tire. Why doesn’t every manufacturer do this? I hate in-tire batteries that are not user replaceable.

What you are describing is an Indirect Tire Pressure Monitoring system. Some of the disadvantages of the Indirect system are:
Disadvantages of Indirect TPMS:
  • The readings may be inaccurate in case of tyre replacement.
  • Unevenly worn tyres give unreliable readings.
  • You have to reset the sensor every time you inflate each tyre.
  • After routine tyre rotation, the indirect TPMS must be reset.
  • Problems with ABS system can also affect your Tyre Press Monitor system.

Some vehicle TPMS systems have specific codes that are stored in the ECU and won't recognize the programmable aftermarket sensors such as Subaru comes to mind.

I bought some used MINI Loop Spoke rims on ebay and the programmable aftermarket sensors Discount Tire installed have been working fine for more than a year. Glad I don't have a Subaru.

My daughter has a late model Audi... er.... VW, and it uses tire sensors. The indirect is old school when tire tech was different. It looks good on paper but very inaccurate/unreliable, especially when folks start staggering tires or use run flats that don't flatten enough to be detectible.

Tires are belted, the circumference doesn't change with air pressure much until they are pretty much deflated.
 
On a related note, do these style sensors actually need to be programmed to the car? Just wondering for when I get a new set of wheels and if it's worth just having new sensors installed so they're all ready to go when they arrive...

I'm pretty sure you just reset TPMS and drive around for a bit and it'll pick up the new ones.

Yes. I got non-OEM sensors in my snow wheels from Tire Rack for my Clubman and they've worked fine for years (I'm still using them on my 3rd Clubman). When I put the wheels on I just went through the tire reset and everything worked great.
 
Ooh how do I know if the circa-2017 Victory Spoke wheel set I picked up has TPMS so I’ll be prepared to order if needed come winter tire time?
 
Damn. Flexible, no “shoulder” on the brass, no writing around the stem. Any recommendations for cheap generics that work?
 
Unless you're going to mount them yourself, I suggest buying them from a tire shop. I once ordered some online, but I had a hard time finding a shop that would install them. Most of the shops I called said they would only install their own. YMMV, obviously.

Good to know! And I assume this TPMS reset is something you do through the infotainment screen? (would verify this but am in the office right now)
