Our MINI hit the 2 year mark in November and I didn't get the car in until mid January for the scheduled service. They did the brake service and inspection and also a recall for the battery cover that I had never even been notified about. While it was there, they also replaced the battery in my key fob as a routine part of the service. Would have been nice if they told me that so I could bring in both of them!

I brought the car in at 7:20 AM on Monday and they were done with it around 9 am (while I waited...they are about 45 minutes away).

Just had my car in for the 2 year service. They left two brand new key fob batteries in the cupholder when I picked it up.

But today BMW/mini SE is not so generous like years ago BMW I3 2 years maintenance replaced wipers also. Was nice they replaced fob battery but not in my case. But the dealer wash my SE .

How serious is this 2-year maintenance? Closest Mini dealer to me is 3 hours away (and not an easy drive with SE limited range and charging options), so I'm not keen on making that trip unless I really need to.

It's up to you. I have a growing list of things I'd like looked at, and I'll want to get new wipers by then. If your service technician really goes down the MINI-mandated checklist, it's like a guarantee that everything is as it should be. Other than the inspection and brake fluid change, the rest is fluff. Then again, my 30-year-old Crapolla never got a brake fluid change, and the pedal remained firm. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yea, I had it in for service, speaker replacement, and recall which was a whole day trip situation. I know my i3 had the same brake fluid at 2 year mark thing and I just don't understand why.

The only other issue I continue to have is at least one of the speakers is cracking with spoken word (podcasts/audiobooks/phone calls). They replaced one at that last service, but it's happening again (though it seems a different speaker/s), and fairly annoying since I listen to a lot of audiobooks.

I need to take mine back in again for the "charge socket flap open" false message. They replaced the whole assembly once about a year ago. Afraid this is going to be a chronic issue.

Mine should have a new set of wiper blades, too, but the cost of just the blades from Parts was crazy...like $60 EACH.

DOH, I completely forgot about that - I had the flap replaced last year too, which was the main reason I made the trip for the service visit. I suspected it'd be a constant issue since it didn't seem like they'd revised the part at all.

I can't believe that much, $60 for a pair sounds more realistic. I had mine replaced as part of service and it actually was cheaper than buying the parts and doing it myself, at least when I had them done.

Had my car in for its 2 y service today.

The good news: In addition to the scheduled items, I had requested a tire rotation if needed. Turns out the fronts are at 3.5 mm to the wear bars whereas the rears are at 2.5 mm, so they didn't rotate them, thus saving me $80. (I told them that I obviously need to use the accelerator more heavily if the rears are wearing more rapidly than the fronts. :)) They also washed, vacuumed, and fully charged the car before I picked it up. Can't complain about that!

The bad news: They declined to warranty the cracked steering wheel airbag chrome plastic trim ring, saying it must have cracked due to an impact. Reading online, this issue seems to not be uncommon for the F56, with some cases apparently the result of simple/rapid thermal expansion (e.g., car in the mountains warming rapidly once the sun comes up). It therefore seems to me that this is really a material defect, which should be covered. However, I can't say that I really blame them, because apparently replacing the trim ring alone isn't possible, they would have to replace the entire airbag (>$1000). So, I guess I will just live with the crack, and if it really bothers me cover it with a carbon fiber or piano black one from killachrome.

I had a similar issue on my F55… the chrome piece cracked and it was denied. Then the split line for the airbag itself started to tear open. Thats only when it was warrantied

My chrome is cracked as well. At last service the service advisor said it had cracked in his MINI as well, likely from the heat, and thought it would be covered. Then he spoke with the service manager. Said it would be covered under 'good will' but they didn't have the part in stock and they would call when it came in. Month later I check - has to come from overseas. Check again in another month - still hasn't arrived.

So I researched the part number and called the parts department. Not in stock at dealership but is in stock in Chicago. I asked if their had been any orders placed for the part recently and was told no orders in the last 6 months. So I was lied to by the service advisor and manager.

Called the service manager - got voice mail. Told him I didn't appreciate the BS and if they weren't going to replace the part under 'good will' to just tell me and I'd take it up with MINI USA. Never heard back from him.

I'm seeing some spitting along the split now - maybe I'll pay them another visit.

I've heard that some pay for new wipers at the scheduled maintenance while for others it's included at no charge. What's the definitive answer? I'd rather spend that on an Islay...

The definitive answer is that it definitely depends on the dealer. I've gotten mine covered under the included maintenance at my local dealer, but they're generally a good dealer and we've bought 4 minis from them.

Do you recall the part number?

That's a big key. It is important to build a long relationship with your dealer. It's certainly one of the reasons that I'm satisfied with mine. Look at it from their viewpoint. Minis are a niche item, and the Countryman is their big seller.

Driver Air Bag - Mini (32-30-9-462-214)
I did not confirm that this is the correct part number based on my VIN.
Ah, sorry, I thought you meant that you had located a part number for just the trim ring.

At least your experience would seem to confirm the statement that you have to buy the airbag as a unit.
