I've thought that would be a good idea for a long time.
Clearly, a short-range EV, while it might work for 90% of one's needs, leaves you unprepared for some things. Having a big truck that sits around most of the time while the Leaf cleanly handles most of your miles makes a lot of sense.
I, personally have had a truck that does just this. It hardly gets any miles but, when it does, there's nothing else that can the job.
Some have referred to this as the "hybrid garage".
