All o]f a sudden this morning, I'm encountering ads sprayed all over the Clarity forum, with an offer to "Subscribe for no ads". Subscribe to what? The forum, Google, whatever? I wouldn't mind a respectful ad here and there, but the are popping up with great frequency, and slowing down access to the forum. What's the deal? Update: Right after my post, the ads all stopped, at least for the moment. Huh?
The permanent thread at the top discusses the new ads that are now part of this forum. You can spend $20 a year if you like the forum a lot and you don't want to see the ads. One poster used PayPal to pay the $20, but the InsideEVs site wasn't ready to handle PayPal, so he continued to see the ads. As a special bonus, you'll see a yellow box with the word, "Subscriber," emblazoned below your forum handle.
Thanks for the info, insightman. I was quite startled when the ads suddenly started appearing between posts. It really slowed down and interrupted the flow - really annoying and distracting. I never saw them before today, but immediately after I posted, they all disappeared, and have not returned a couple of hours later. I assume this all started today, or recently. I guess it's apparent that I never read the permanent thread. I'll check it out. I use the forum a lot, so I'll probably subscribe just to avoid the annoyance. I presume that's why they made them as distracting as possible. There is no free lunch, and it does cost someone money to keep the lights on and the bits flowing, I guess.
I don't mind the ads, but some of them muck with the "DOM" and shift the page up or down when rotating ads -- which is very annoying.
Yes, they are annoying. Oddly, they stopped showing up on my Laptop browser right after my post, and I haven't seen any in the last 12 hours. Maybe an ad Blocker is preventing them. They are showing up now on the browser on my mobile - and just as annoying here. I just switched to Tapatalk so I could post without the screen moving about. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
I'm using uBlock origin, but yesterday, I had the ads splattering on the forum for a while, slowing things down and moving the posts up and down erratically. After I posted, they just went away. I assume the ad blocker was either not working for a bit, or it took a while to lock in on the ads.
