  1. Went for a ride in the snow - around -5F - 2 to 3 foot of snow - Conti Extreme Contacts - drove like a little tank - warm and cozy in the cab - great way to start a Xmas morning!

I did the same thing at about 1am. Used my son's GoPro, but the video is upside down for some reason.

I went to the Sunday supermarket, sadly i moved to Norway some years ago, the land which time bypassed, we don't have any Sunday shopping, only supermarkets less than 100sqm are allowed to remain open.

After reading your post, I wondered how these Norwegian Sunday laws persist and learned that they were enacted just 27 years ago. I expected there would be entrepeneurs who created 100sqm stores packed to the gills with goods people run out of (eg. milk and beer) or buy on impulse (eg. lottery tickets). I found this Shopping in Norway webiste that included this information:

    Opening hours in Norway
If you’re used to shops being open whenever you need them you’re in for a surprise. While most supermarkets are open from 7 or 8 in the morning, many regular stores will only be open from 10am to 6pm.

You’ll find the biggest difference on Sundays. Aside from convenience stores such as Narvesen and 7/11, only stores of a certain size are permitted to open on Sundays, and only then for a maximum of 6 hours. Typically this is from 10am to 4pm or 11am to 5pm. Some supermarkets have a smaller Sunday opening section to meet these requirements.

That supermarket sub-section ploy made me wonder: Can the clerk in one of these Sunday supermarket sub-sections slip into the main store to grab something a customer requests?

Fortunately, you are never stuck searching for a gas station that's open on Sunday.

I would build a 100 m² Sunday store with a 30 foot clearance and library ladders, and clerks to go up and down the ladders to grab what you need off the shelves lol. Corner the Sunday market so to speak.

Took the flex charger with us to top up at his place as he plugs his RV in with 14-50R. Mostly secondary country roads to his place. Get to his place at 40-45% SOC, AC off, heating on 18c. Don’t bother plugging it park in his heated garage. Drive to my sisters which is about halfway between him and us. 50km, arrive at her place with 20% SOC left.

AC was off, heating on 18c and again mostly country roads. Still here(blue dot) and won’t bother plugging in until we reach home. Which will be around 200km in the cold and very careful driving.

The Sunday store closest to us has opening times from 10.00 to 23.00, in summer Sunday is the busiest day of the week for them. They are attached to a larger store, if they aren’t busy they will go into the main store and get what you want.

it’s a stupid situation. There is a town about 40km from us which is a designed tourist town, all there shops are allowed to remain open on Sundays. The problem is the religious party that often the main parties need to for a govt, they won’t budge on Sunday opening, they forget that Norwegians are becoming atheists at a rapid clip, they have closed hundreds of churches because nobody uses them.

I’m on the fence with Sunday shopping. During covid lockdowns here it was nice now having Sunday shopping but maybe it should have been like France(we are baby France) where they could allow grocery stores to have opened 9-1pm. So what you had was people going to pharmacies in massive amounts to buy food goods (some pharmacies here have grocery sections) the church has been dying off for 50 years here

I’d like to see later Saturday shopping hours but closed on Sundays

I remember as a child no stores were open on Sundays in Minnesota, not even gas stations. I found it annoying, since I always wanted to go buy candy or comics. But that was rescinded decades ago, and just five years ago state law was changed to allow liquor stores to open on Sundays. Car dealers are still closed on Sundays, which I'm sure is the last business type closed by law on Sundays in the state.

I didn't realize Sunday shopping was still so restricted. Might be that we live in a more diverse area where not all can shop on Saturdays anyway, but I found it to be antiquated and quite exclusive to many people.

We finally hit above single digits and negatives actually. Car still hasn't seen full power in a while. Doing fine on the snow but today was more ice than snow sadly. Car is excellent in the snow though.

If you want full 100% power you can precondition by setting a one-time departure time at least 1hr in advance (30 min is hit or miss). It does use battery and if you want to replenish the lost electrons you can have the MINI plugged to a Level 2 charger. I have no issues staying 100% SoC with 20A Level 2 + departure time.

Using climatization (fan icon on app) will only try to set the cabin temps to ~72F.

If I’m heading down the 132 — buddy in Ormstown, other friend in St-Anicet, packages at the Halfway House — I usually stop in at Barabas for a cold one (or to take some home fresh from the source). I’ve never actually been there mid-winter, though. Do they have fire pits set up?

I’ve never stopped at either. My dad lives primarily in Dundee, like 5 mins from the Halfway House thing. Today we went to his second home in St Anicet near the water then went out to my sisters. My step mom and sister don’t get along so it makes for a fun time.. I believe the owners of Barabas or some Microbrewery bought his old home in Huntingdon

my wife and I live in city. Our local brewery is 4 origines on st patrick. The dorval location is great as well with food! We don’t get out my dads often. He normally comes to us lol

Third winter with this car, so I'm aware on how my green machine works ;) I have a L2 charger at my house, but I don't have the luxury to schedule departures often anyway. Rarely can I actually with my line of work. It's all good honestly as when roads are ice with a dusting of snow I better not do above about 40-50% power anyway.

I transported some lumber. They loaded it onto the roof using a forklift, which I could have done without. It was a bit nerve-racking.

I've seen enough Muppets in action to always load stuff myself. Only if it's really awkward to do my own, I'll get help.

Today I picked up the boot liner I’ve been waiting for. The dealer gave me winter mats for the car and a rubber boot liner. Summer mats were delivered with the car but only for the front, I was told MINI no longer provide them for the back seats.

Didn’t do anything except drive it. We have already covered about 800kms since picking it up almost 3 weeks ago. Went to dinner tonight and took advantage of great public charging here. 5AA4778E-C8BD-471F-927E-74C99C151762.jpeg

3700 public charging stations in Quebec, with close to 800 being DC fast chargers. More than two-thirds of public stations are in and around the Montréal metropolitan area, as are roughly two-thirds of the province’s registered EVs. The number of public stations is expected to top 5000 in the next 18 months, in a province with a total population smaller than that of Chicagoland.

I didn’t think I’d use free public J1772 charging much at all, but I’ve cottoned on to it and now plan some errands around it: there is a free ChargePoint L2 station conveniently located in a new strip mall across from the Costco in Vaudreuil, so I hit Costco, then cross over and plug in while I do my groceries at IGA, wander the aisles of a pretty good SAQ (wine/liquor store for those not familiar), and grab a burger and beer at La Belle et le Boeuf or an enchilada at Carlos & Pepe’s. I can easily get 40% and not exceed the requested two hour limit.
