Thanks for the update @craze1cars, in my solar euphoria of never having another electric bill, I didn’t even think about a situation where gas vs.electric costs could make HV more economical than EV. My bad.

However, I’ve never seen a residential electric utility rate and gasoline price in the south east that would make HV cheaper than EV. But you made me realize that it is possible after I tried the math. Here in coal country where it’s only 10 cents/kWh 24/7, gas would have to be about $1/gal or electricity about 30 cents/kWh based on my frugal driving style and mostly local trips under 60 mph.

I’m just glad I’m now immune to rising utility rates and glad I don’t live in California with the double whammy of high gas prices and tiered/TOU utility rates (even with off peak charging rates).

A couple of years ago, my utility put in 3 EVSEs downtown at a rate so high that it was indeed cheaper to burn gas for me. After noticing that they were virtually unused, they just recently reduced the price to around 20 to 25 cents/kWh. LOL

PS: Thanks for sharing all your expertise on the ins and outs of insurance and repairs. They should be collected and made a sticky (if this forum only had stickies!)
