I can't be the first to have seen this but this is interesting. Sorry if it is a repost. https://www.honda.co.uk/cars/new/cr-v-hybrid/overview.html A 2.0 litre Atkinson Cycle petrol engine works with two electric motors – one propulsion and one generator motor – controlled by an intelligent Multi-Mode Drive (i-MMD) system providing 3 driving modes: Electric Drive, Hybrid Drive and Engine Drive. Two-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions are available. Some information on the hybrid system: https://www.honda.co.uk/cars/new/coming-soon/hybrid.html
Still better than diesel. It comes down to price, I would also check RAV4 hybrid, better performance, better fuel economy, better towing capacity. As for the green Environment, don't buy an SUV, even if it's PHEV.
I currently have a CRV and a Clarity Plug In. If Honda made a CRV Plug In with 50 miles EV range with a real spare tire that would be the perfect vehicle for me. I wouldn’t need to have two vehicles like I do now. It could be my hauling / bad weather vehicle and my commuter vehicle all in one. With the money saved I could buy solar panels for house. I could be super green.
In 2017 I read 2018 In 2018 I read 2019 Now I read as a 2020 model I would gladly swap out my current CRV for a hybrid CRV even though my current CRV has many thousands of good miles left in it.
