I thought the mode 3 Tesla was supposed to be addressing this niche in the market with a $35,000 car affordable by 'anyone' and capable of a 300 mile range. This still seems far too pricey to me, when compared to many ICE cars, but if you want the advertised range it will cost a lot more than that. I saw an item today in which Musk seems to be boosting the price to $78,000 by adding a few more bells and whistles. Whatever its charms, this seems to me to stretch the word 'affordable ' well beyond its elastic limit.
