I’m beginning to wonder how the whole issue of batteries is going to shake out. To be sure there will be on going R&D and along with that it the appearance that lithium is a target along with the other rare and toxic (and potentially embargoed) materials that make up present day battery technology. Still there is a rush on by investors and mining companies to grab up sources of lithium as R&D labs push on. Will these investors and mining companies be left holding the bag as new materials yield better (lighter, more energy dense, cheaper) batteries? Will battery development be a moving target for material resource suppliers? Will there be a standard battery some day as gasoline became the standard fuel over steam and lead acid batteries?

As battery technology continues to evolve, I believe the first two will always overrule the third.
