I am curious until when I have to order a Tesla before the tax incentive expires.. basing on when it is able to sell its 200,000th car. Based on last earnings, they have delivered 148,798 cars to date. Is that an accurate measurement? Is this the number we have to watch? THey are wanting to reach 6000 cars made per week. THat take approx. 8 months before they sell the 200,000th? THanks.
Found this. https://arstechnica.com/cars/2018/07/tesla-sold-200000-cars-in-the-us-so-the-7500-tax-credit-is-going-away/ It says your tesla will have to be delivered before the end of the year to take advantage of the credit.
From the Tesla site itself. https://www.tesla.com/support/incentives Electric Vehicle Incentives The following federal income tax credits are available to anyone who purchases a new Tesla Model S, Model X or Model 3: Federal Tax Credit For Vehicles Delivered $7,500 On or before December 31, 2018 $3,750 January 1 to June 30, 2019 $1,875 July 1 to December 31, 2019 Several states and local utilities offer additional electric vehicle incentives for customers, often taking the form of a rebate. Rebates can be claimed immediately after purchase, while tax credits are claimed when filing income taxes. Many states also offer non-cash incentives, such as carpool lane access in California and free municipal parking. All states $7,500 income tax credit (subject to phase out schedule above) Arizona Reduced Vehicle License Tax, Carpool lane access and reduced rates for electric vehicle charging California $2,500 rebate (based on income eligibility) Connecticut $3,000 rebate for new vehicles with a base price under $60,000 Colorado $5,000 tax credit for purchase of a new vehicle $2,500 tax credit for lease of a new vehicle Delaware $1,000 rebate for new vehicles with a base price over $60,000 $3,500 rebate for new vehicles with a base price under $60,000 Hawaii Carpool lane access and reduced rates for electric vehicle charging Louisiana $2,500 income tax credit Maryland $3,000 Excise Tax Credit for new vehicles with a total price under $60,000 $700 rebate on wall connectors and installation Massachusetts $1,000 rebate for new vehicles with a base price over $60,000 $2,500 rebate for new vehicles with a base price under $60,000 Nevada Reduced rates for electric vehicle charging New Jersey Sales tax exempt New York $500 rebate for new vehicles with a base price over $60,000 $2,000 rebate for new vehicles with a base price under $60,000 Pennsylvania $1,750 rebate for new vehicles with a base price under $50,000 (500 rebates available between January 1 and June 30, 2018) Washington DC Excise tax exempt All of the above incentives are available when purchasing a Tesla vehicle with cash or a loan. Only California, Colorado, Massachusetts, New York, and Tennessee incentives are available when leasing a Tesla vehicle. Incentive programs are offered and administered by government agencies. Eligibility and availability vary and are outside of Tesla’s control. Most programs are limited to a total dollar amount that can be dispersed or will expire on a certain date. Be sure to visit the state program’s website for the most up-to-date information on availability and redemption requirements. Your eligibility for income tax credits depends on your personal tax situation. We recommend speaking with a tax professional for guidance.
Guess I'm too late to answer your question, but it looks like you took care of business pretty well yourself. May I ask which Tesla you are interested in getting?
The Model 3. Trying to reserve mine online. Hoping to get delivery before the year end. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
Feel free to keep us up to date with that. I don't think you can get the standard pack before the end of the year, but you may be able to get one of the other variants.
Website says 2-4 months on the long range + premium interior. Crossing fingers. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
If you are trying to order a long range version of the Model 3, then I think you do have a realistic chance of getting one before the end-of-the-year deadline. At least, that's my assessment from a great deal of discussion and debates/ arguments on the subject. Trying to order a short range version at this time, probably no chance because there are already far too many people in line ahead of you. Good luck to you, and please keep us updated!
Order officially placed 8/10. Oct-Dec time frame. Gonna be the best Xmas gift! Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
So I got this in my email.. Says my delivery date is around 8/18???! Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
Well... that's certainly a surprise! A delivery only 10 days after you converted your reservation to an order, and you live in NC, the other side of the continent from the factory?!? I'm guessing that's a typo. It's not impossible; it's possible that your order exactly matched an order for a car which was already on its way to your area when the order was cancelled, or exactly matched a unit ordered for a service loaner or a demo car en route to your area. But the odds of that are pretty low. I'm awaiting the next chapter in your story!
Actually, I did not even have a reservation! I just ordered it and paid 8/10 And can confirm this is legit. They have emailed me again asking for the trade details, loan details etc. And they really are looking at delivery in about a week!! I feel I may have lucked out having a vehicle that possibly was ordered. I do wonder if anyine else had a similar experience. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
Okay, I should have written "A delivery only 10 days after you finalized your order". What I described above has been reported before; I wasn't just making things up. But it's quite rare for customers who are on the opposite side of the country from Fremont, California, to get a delivery that soon after finalizing an order. You are a lucky man or woman!
I took delivery of my model 3 yesterday. Ordered Aug 10. Delivered 8/27 - 17 days. They said it so happened exact same model was sitting in the Birmingham facility and it was transported right away to Charlotte. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
hmm the cynic in me finds this a little strange. May be it is true, or may be that demand for the extended range version is not that high and they are able to make to order. I just looked at my order and it told me that it would take 2-4 months if I ordered it today (I could have ordered a couple of months back when they threw it open but I decided not to cancel my earlier reservation but hold out for the $35K or withdraw my money later. ) If there are delivering cars in 17 days, it could be a coincidence or that things are not that rosy with Model 3 sales. If the are even doing about 20,000 cars a month for the last couple of months, their order backlog should be coming down significantly.
If its anything, the Charlotte lot was full of them probably in The 100s, and they said all except maybe 1 or 2 are sold. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
Congratulations! So, pretty much the rare scenario I detailed above. As I said, you got lucky! But you realize, I hope, that you now owe us a report about your first impressions of the car.
First impressions! Love it! It's a Fun Car to drive. Acceleration is awesome! Much better than the camaro I had before. Size is on the small side. Coming from a LaCrosse. I am now a family man so I wish it was a little bigger. But can deifintielt fit my wife and 2 kids in the car without problems. The Main con I have is it sits very low on The ground, hard to get in and out in comparison. But I understand this is more of a sports car and low profiles the norm for this kind of car.
