If Tesla is going to hand a hard core smack down to gas cars it should take on that hybrid race car that has the true record at Nurburgring of 5:20min. It wouldn't be easy with the Roadster as the Evo beat the #2 record holder Nio EP9 full electric car by 1:05 minutes. The EP9 had a more car like layout than the Evo and the Roadster would suffer from the same drawback. The Evo weights 1929lbs before driver or fuel and only had to carry enough gas to get around the track one time probably about 2100lbs- probably needs just over a gallon of gas and it has massive brake cross section and impractical aero dynamics and microscopic ground clearance and massive glue like tire patches and is really a purpose built non streetable machine as lean as a motor cycle underneath they literally integrated the engine as a load bearing member like a motor cycle.

On the other hand the base roadster is straight up faster and the founders series will be faster still and possibly by a good bit. It would still seem impossible unless the SpaceX thruster package can last the length of the track and help to compensate on cornering and braking. Its probably asking too much but if it made sense it might even be able to help in strategic places to increase the acceleration advantage. Maybe it could beat the race car by doing it on auto pilot- saving the weight of the driver. Maybe the supercapacitor which is surely included in the Roadster's Plaid will help in some way that isn't already obvious?

It just has to overcome a disadvantages on weight, aerodynamics and tire patch. But a speed/power advantage with with the cold thrusters and a programed run at the limit of the physics might be able to overcome the race cars huge advantages- and as for clearance those cars still hit the berms so it can't really be that low, so its tires, aero and probably 1000lbs or more weight disadvantage. 620 miles of batteries has to have some weight to it.

Having the absolute victory lap at Nurburgring on a streetable car (even if you loud space x package is for the track) that costs 1/20 would be a huge smack down.
