Always seemed ridiculous that the Trump Admin thought it would sell a bunch of petrol to China.

If China wanted coal it has its own and can likely get it cheaper than having it shipped across the ocean. Plus China is going green and building its economy around that.

Seems like it should be easy for China to target petrol imports and products where petrol is a substantial portion of the cost and transfer the difference to green products with subsidies.

I get that China could raise food prices but its crap food that uses petrol fertilizer and green is a better than perfect instant substitute for powering farm equipment. Also, part of green is organic, guessing China has figured that out even if it ends up replacing soy with stuff made from freshwater algae. US figured it out during the oil embargo when it made soy patties instead of hamburger for school lunches because petrol was down.
