We received our first snow today in Buffalo, NY and that means the roads are salted. There is a constant freeze/thaw cycle with the addition of salt whenever it might be slippery. It is very difficult to keep the rust from eating the underside of your vehicles. image (5).jpg

Bummer! Very similar conditions here in Cleveland this morning also. The snow/slush accumulated on the front of the car and obstructed the radar unit which shut down all of the Honda sensing features :(

I grew up in Rochester but have lived in California for 50 years now. You can keep that weather. The high for today is predicted to be 77 here.

I always tell people I had my life's quota of snow by my 18th birthday so I'm not allowed to have snow anymore.

Same here in central Michigan (1-3" today). The Clarity is comfortably tucked into the garage today. I let my Explorer take on the snow and yucky weather.

Waiting for the snow to show up here in Syracuse. Will try and keep the Clarity clean throughout the winter months via garage waterless wash and wax and a few runs through a touchless car wash with undercarriage spray.

How are the tires holding up in the first snow?? Don't have high hopes for these Michelin savers :(

ST, I used the Optimum no rinse, wash, and wax a couple of days ago (50°F and cloudy) for the first time. Works well. This car is not easy to wash with all the body ins&outs.

The roads are not really slippery yet, as the ground is warmer than the air and of course there is a layer of salt. It will be interesting to see how the Clarity drives for me because I had an AWD vehicle last year and have had one for the last 15 years.

Amen on that! I've never before had a car that takes as long to wash and dry. I spent a few hours waxing our Clarity a couple of days ago (Griot's Garage Liquid Glass Poly Wax, which I like very much) and the car's black plastic trim adds to the difficulty created by the ins & outs.

What sensors does the Clarity have for Honda Sensing? I always thought it was solely based on the camera in front (or is that back?) of the rear-view mirror. Is there also a radar unit?

Pretty sure the giant Honda emblem on the front bumper contains the radar behind it. Someone please correct me if that is incorrect.

I remember on my 2016 Civic with Sensing there was a more obvious smoked plastic opening low on one side of the bumper that had the radar unit...and indeed if it got all slushed/snowed up from highway driving it would give me a warning on the dash that it had shut the system down.

Well WX started here too (near Kingston Ontario)

    - I don't mind that the snow obscures the giant Honda emblem - where the radar etc it located; but bummed I can't turn off the message and therefore can't use a bunch of functions including the cell phone buttons...

Anyone know how to turn off the warning?

Getting out on a slippery 2 lane road to clean the emblem is NOT an option..

    My new Michelin snows and 5 spoke alloy wheels seemed to do the job;

The Electric range is pitiful now - starts at 85 Km (was 105 in summer) went 60 km and had 10 km left :-(
oh well - I may be very happy to have the ICE soon (and hopefully not on the road!)

Is any of the smoke from the Camp Fire drifting your way, or is it just heading south?

Good question. The radar sensor is located behind the Honda emblem on the front grill. I believe the windshield camera is only used for lane keep assist. The radar is used for adaptive cruise control and emergency braking.

I had this exact same warning pop up while driving in the snow yesterday.

It was my first drive out on the interstate today. There was snow and miscellaneous slop from the sky. Got the radar warning. By the time the dance was over so was the stuff on the radar and on the drive home the the message had disapeared.

Don't worry. Nearly all the body panels of the Clarity are made of Aluminum as are most of the suspension components. Most of the rest that can have exposure to moisture are plastic.

Yeah. Don’t have an opinion yet, but She Who Must Be Obeyed is advocating for a AWD Subaru rather than getting a set of winter tires. :)

Still sad to see full charge EV estimate at 30-several rather than 50-odd. But we will persevere.

But with the myriad of California’s other problems, some may still prefer blizzards. ;)
