It seems to me that replacement batteries would be a natural business for an independent outfit. With the improvement and decreased cost of cells, an independent should be able to make a good living from making improved batteries for replacement of early EV's that are coming to the end of life. I doubt that OEM's would want to engage in this market.
I guess I don't see it that way since I suspect the traction battery is going to be very reliable, the range of most new EVs are 200 miles or more, and the cost of a replacement battery to be too high.
