  1. A pair of Rivian R1T pre-production trucks were recently spotted in Argentina and were thought to be there doing some winter testing. Well, turns out, the situation is much more interesting than that.

The trucks are part of a caravan of vehicles involved in the latest adventure trip/documentary by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman. The two previously have done a number of expeditions, most famously Long Way Round and Long Way Down. This outing is tagged Long Way Up.

Though Autoblog Argentina says the trip is from Ushuaia (Tierra del Fuego) to Los Angeles, I would be surprised if it isn't going all the way to Alaska.

The main stars of the trip (for some, at least) may not be the electric trucks, but the electric bikes: four Harley Livewire examples fitted out for more adventure-bike role than boulevard cruising, according to RideApart. We're told there are also a pair of Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans and a Ford F-350 dually acting in support roles.

Having followed the Racing Green Endurance trip from Alaska to Ushuaia, I have little doubt this will be an epic adventure, even if the vehicles involved here are much better adapted to the range of expected conditions. (Interesting note: Claudio von Planta, the man behind the camera of Long Way Round and Long Way Down, recorded the RGE effort as well.)

We somehow need to find people along the route to send us updates/spy photos.

  4. Agreed. Nothing like having your vehicles involved in this sort of epic expedition to build some bona fides and get the word out.
