Being in Manitoba there are no provincial incentives just the $5000 federal purchase incentive. I just realized today that there is a capital cost allowance for business use that allows an immediate 100% write off in the year the EV (assuming its over 15 kWh)is put into use for up to $55,000 + sales tax, the catch is you can only use one or the other. I just did some back of the envelope math and it looks like at my average tax rate the tax savings would be at least 3 x individual federal purchase incentive. For me this potentially makes the purchase of EV as a business vehicles a no brainer. Of course you could use whatever prorated portion of the capital cost allowance for personal use. I am curious how many folks here have declined the federal purchase incentive and opted for the decreased income tax bill? I am a little surprised no one mentioned this to me earlier. Nonetheless I am glad I clued in on this before the dealer applies for the federal incentive.
