We tried charging our Honda Clarity at a public charging station. The station is new, just installed as part of a NY State rest stop. Neither of the charging ports matched our Honda. Someone I met suggested we have to purchase an an adaptor. Has anyone heard of such an adaptor and whether it would be safe to use.

The phev Clarity has a J1772 connector for level 1and level 2 charging. Many of the new charge stations are level 3 for fast charge of mainly EV only vehicles . See the link below. Those level stations have Chademo, CCS, or Telsa connector. You can't use those since they are fast charge which the PHEV generally don't support. A Tesla destination charger that is level 2 might be usable with adapter .

Some of that information is stale pertaining to CCS and Asian manufactures. It needs to be updated.

Those are likely Level 3 chargers which the hybrid doesn't support. And no you cannot use an adapter to be able to use it.
