Hi! I'm new to the forum. Came here to do research the ev6 that I have a deposit on. Local dealer (Car Pros Kia in Renton, Wa) is asking for 5k on top of msrp for a awd wind w/ the tech package. I'm gonna go for it anyway. The reason; the other side of the deal is too good to pass up. I got 2k more for my 2017 focus st than what I paid for it new! And it has a door ding! In a "normal" market, my trade might easily be half what I'm getting. For me, I hate the markup and wouldn't pay another penny over the 5k mark-up, but market forces raising the cost of used cars so high makes it a good time to sell imo.

Just got my Niro phev from Sunset.
Paid msrp plus my trade. Ouch but I got tired of waiting.

Did you ask if Sunset is selling EV6s at MSRP?

the dealer I got my Niro EV from didn’t have any coming the mat were not orders.
That’s what ended up happening when I was looking to get an Ioniq or EV6 after I “crushed my wife’s soul (EV)”. We ended up finding a Niro EV for MSRP plus tint (that was a bit high 1000 vs. 500). Now I will most likely not be getting an Ioniq or EV6 unless production is moved to the United States with the tax law changes or the prices are deeply cut. It’s a hard at MSRP for me as it’s way above my top end of the market. Even the Niro at 50k out the door was much more than I want to spend on a car as I have to wait to get back the $7500 credit.
The current EV market just makes me realize how fortunate those of us that got the Clarity PHEV were at the time, While it’s starting to feel dated the ride quality, and soundproofing and overall feel placed it well above the competition even with some of the feature loss and dated tech.

The funny thing is what even got me looking at Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq in the first place was the fact that cost was going up so quickly on the Model Y that it priced me out of the market.

I still feel fortunate to have my 2018 Clarity PHEV. It doesn't get driven often, but it's a great car for long trips.

Only when taking a long trip can I pry my hands off the steering wheel of my 110-miles/charge MINI Cooper SE. Today is the 2nd anniversary of my MINI's arrival. It's so much fun to drive that in that time my wife and I have put 10,800 miles on the MINI and less than 1,000 miles on the Clarity. Not being a crossover fan (or a Tesla fan), if I was going to replace our Clarity, it would be with an Ioniq 6, not an EV6.

My Clarity lost its job as road trip car, the Niro EV now has a trip from Dallas, TX to my hometown Normal, IL, Dallas to Phoenix, AZ, Phoenix to the Grand Canyon (yeah that was a rough learning curve 6000 ft of elevation gain ATE my range) and planned trip from Dallas to Sarasota, FL this Winter. EA sucks* but is good enough it was about $90 each of those trips and should be about $100 to Florida and back. The Clarity would be double that at 3.50 a gallon which is about 8.75 cents per mile compared to 3.5-4.5 cents a mile in the Niro EV. The price is suppressed due to full charges overnight at the hotels we stay at on the way.

I still absolutely love the Clarity I just wish I could swap it for the full EV version.

*Several charging stops I was met with nonfunctioning stations or stations with drastically reduced speeds approximately 31 kW versus 70 kW on the trip to Phoenix and back. It was hot and I don’t think the stations can handle that. My car was fine and the hottest my battery got was 100° while charging.

Yes, taking the luxurious (IMO) Clarity is more expensive than your Niro EV, but despite the obnoxious, smelly visits to gas stations, it's more convenient for the one or two long trips we take a year. The 2022 Niro EV is supposed to go 239 miles/charge, but I expect that if you need a full mid-trip charge, the last 20% is inconveniently time-consuming.

The EV6's high-speed charging capability makes long-distance trips so easy. In the time it takes for a bathroom break, you can gain enough charge to get to the next bathroom break!

The way we’ve been planning we don’t go above 73% unless needed. We do tend to get up to about 90 to 95% when we stop for lunch or dinner. If I remember correctly it doesn’t slow down to level two speeds until about 98% but it’s not much faster at around 10kw.

When the electrify America stations are working correctly this is what we’ve seen:
    74kw to 52%
    57kw to 73%
    37kw to 78%
    25kw to 93%

The Niro EV is not a perfect road trip car but it has been adequate. Which I think that word sums up the Niro line perfectly… Adequate.

But yes definitely the Ioniq RWD or the EV6 RWD would be a better road trip car for sure. We never ended up definitively deciding between the two because the pricing and availability were ridiculous. We were leaning Ioniq Limited RWD which seems to be a unicorn car.
