It was a big diappointment that MINI didn't bring any of the 1,000 SE convertibles built at Plant Oxford across the ocean. Perhaps these cars couldn't pass NHTSA rollover tests?

If J03 convertible is coming to the US without a (pop-up?) roll-bar, that A-pillar will have to be able to support the entire weight of the heavy long-range batteries from the J01. Even if the J03 is 300 lbs heavier than the portly J01, I expect it will be a big sales success with a niche all its own. (The folded top on this mock-up photo doesn't look big enough to cover the whole cabin IMO.)

The F57 SE was an insane price, about 55k pounds IIRC in the UK. How much was it in Euros? Did electrifying the F57 compromise it in any way?

Meanwhile while I was looking for an SE last December, in New England, I was amused that one local dealer had about 30 F57s in inventory. There was a nice JCW on the showroom floor with a silly price tag on it.

Presumably if the J01 will hit the US in 2026 the J03 will be here too

    cheers

Even before getting confirmation that the Plant Oxford-built J01 MINI or J05 Aceman is coming to the US, MotoringFile has received confirmation the Plant Oxford-built J03 Convertible is coming to the US.

Why did MINI make only 1,000 the F57 convertible SEs and not bring any to the US? I believe US customers would have snapped up every one from that batch even if MINI charged $70K apiece.

Now Maserati's showing off their $200K drop-top EV. The writer of this headline evidently didn't know about the MINI F57 SE--or the 2008 Tesla Roadster:

With enough time on your hands, all the SE bits wouldn't be physically hard to fit to an F57. Just tedious in the extreme. People will start doing this.

With the J's sharper windscreen rake, I'd rather they scrap the back seat in the 03 and bring back the Roadster. A lack of rear seat might also allow for a rear motor...

An AWD GPe Mini would be awesome. I'd buy one.

I see pop-ups at the rear seat shoulders.

F57, top down. This was the loaner that I had when they were chasing gremlins in my SE. View out of the car is poor with the top up, great with it down. Boot space is sacrificed for the folding mechanism. This car is a magnet for young women.

Not to derail the conversation too far, but the real car magnet for women is:
