At 80 cents a kwh for cells at the pack level (less than 60 cents a the cell level) with 4,000 cycles a system that would last 75 years or more and take the average home completely off the grid (a couple weeks worth of back up) and make it possible to literally super charge at home (not at the same time) a couple Model Ys covering the average commute for both could cost about 50K cash and pay itself off in about 7 years. It really is about an 11x savings on the sum of gas, natural gas, and utility electric while being completely green and disaster hardening. End up lining your garage with probably something like 12 or 13x taller power wall cabinets but even for fires the new cells are supposedly a lot better. Not at ideal latitude (?) add more pv cells, won't add much more cost and you won't run out of roof.

To fold natural gas in if your home wasn't already full electric might take some efficiency work to absorb the cost but it makes sense to do that anyway. Tesla's forth coming HVAC contrary to prattle of course will not overlook existing buildings (that wouldn't be nonsense and leaving money on the table and a huge loss to green.) This idea that existing HVAC is not ripe for disruption is nonsense. Certain if you look you will find natural gas companies have interlocking boards with the big HVAC firms and you get the same super wasteful results. At the 30 year mark the solar panels might need to be replaced- but the cost should be negligible by that time, maybe akin to installing sheets of glass as replacements- maybe 4K in today's dollars?

A bigger concern is cutting energy rent seeking. Another fake green regime will presumably be more interested in handing out cash to fossil fuels than funding mars and moon programs and might cut them. Which could cause Tesla to lean more heavily on virtual power programs to fund Mars in balancing human survival against human stupidity. I hope it doesn't come to that because ending energy rent seeking is one of the fastest ways we end fossil fuels by economically incentivizing its destruction and of course liquidating any claims by fossil fuel investors that they were in any way entitled to future returns, they were stupid and unethical they are entitled to losses. If these same sour grapes investors want to go ahead and help unleash some true free energy tech to sour solar, its totally welcome but it will have to be a lot better than hot fusion because battery backed solar already is. We constantly hear incredibly stupid things like cheap gas- if memory serves Fuller placed the actual cost of a gallon of gas at something like $200,000 but regardless that energy rent seeking crap goes up every year by inflation when wages don't so we pay more and more for that rent seeking poison.
