  1. I'll certainly look for the driving mode option to see if I can make it a default.

The '24 has an automated brake cleaning cycle. No more braking in neutral for me!

  3. @Wildeyed @EeVeed If either of you could post some shots what it looks like to plan a long trip (including charging stops) with the built in navigation, I would be eternally grateful. It's the one feature I didn't get to try out (it requires Bluelink which was disabled in the prototype I drove).

What was actually happening before you pressed the secret button? Is there a drunken LKA mode that's always on by default?

  5. LKA requires the driver to steer but reminds them of lane edges. If mistaken for LFA it could seem like that.

  6. Lane Departure Warning/Assist is always on. This only kicks in when you're about to leave the lane without signaling, first with warning beeps, then with a bit of steering input to drag you back into the lane.

Thanks! Now I understand how, without switching on LKA, @Wildeyed's Kona EV steered itself to keep him from leaving his lane.

  9. Just realized I've been using the wrong names for things:
    • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) is the thing that is always on, warning you with beeps and dragging you back into the lane.
    • Lane Following Assist (LFA) is the thing that's activated using the steering-wheel button, actively looking forward for lane markers and constantly providing steering input to keep you centered in the lane.

  10. Ya, it seems odd to me that you would have 2 separate systems with similar names that essentially aim to do the same thing. Why have one "dumb" system plus one "smart" one? Usually when a thing is improved the older, lesser thing falls by the wayside.

    * And also, slow people like me wouldn't have to struggle with obvious buttons! ;)

  11. It can be disabled upon start up, you will lose the same icon in the dash screen.

I deactivate the LKA a lot in winter and also when roads do not have markings on both sides of the lane. Not sure if the 2024 has this button included.

  13. I played around today poking at on-screen menus and failed to find any way to tie Lane Follow with the driving mode or make it a default setting. I may be missing something but it appears I'll have to turn it on manually every drive.

I got my digital key working. Very cool option to be able to have a spare key on your phone.

  14. What phone do you have? I can't get it working on the Pixel 8 Pro yet.

  15. Pixel 7 Pro - but it did fail the first time I tried. Second time, closely following the directions, worked.

  16. Getting snow tires installed...

  17. Nice! I just got new Michelin X-Ice Winter Tires for mine. Bought them on the internet for the first time. PMC Tire. Pretty great company and customer service. Getting them installed next Wednesday.

  18. That's exactly what I did! :) Except I used blackcircles.

  19. Did you go with steelies or aluminum rims? I wanted some better looking aluminum rims but they hadn't certified the ones I wanted for the Kona EV yet. The 2024 was too new.

  20. I'm mostly city driving right now, so unfortunately I won't be able to do any highway testing.

  21. I'm just keeping my current rims. That's what I did with my 2019 Kona Electric. I like the new rims. I'm storing the tires in my garage.

  22. I had X-Ice i3s on my previous Kona and really liked the performance. These X-Ice SNOWs have been redesigned so I have fingers crossed that the good performance will continue.

Ah! I' ve always been a bit leary about taking tires on and off rims year after year and wear and tear on the beads so I go for the full set.

  23. Ok, that is good idea for next time when they have the specs. I haven't had a problem yet, but who knows.

    Almost done!
