My brother just picked up his Model Y last month and this afternoon, while making a legal left turn at a light, was T-boned by a minivan blowing through a red light going about 55 mph.
He was able to climb out of the car on his own. He has a few broken bones and other non-life threatening injuries but the Model Y definitely upheld its reputation for protecting its occupants. He was cocooned by all of the air bags that rose to the occasion to protect him. He'll be sore for a while and take a bit to recover but will be ok.
Tesla called his wife to check on them right after he had called her.
The minivan driver was badly injured and cited for the violation. We, of course hope she recovers ok as well. Too bad she wasn't driving a Tesla too - it would probably have detected the red-light and and his car and started braking, significantly reducing both of their injuries.

    Just curious:
    • Did he have a USB stick recording the dash cams?
    • Any photos of both vehicles? (Local news may have details.)
    • Was the other driver using a cell phone at the time? (Cell phones can be a deadly driver distraction from the conversations alone.)

ps. Glad your brother's outcome was "less bad" than it could have been.

  4. I'm sorry to hear about your brother's injuries, but thank you for the information about how the Tesla helped him walk away from a horrible accident.

Probably. I haven't seen them. There's little question about fault or what happened. There were also many witnesses that called 911 and helped everyone.
Don't know but very likely. Luckily, it wasn't distraction from kids in the back or there would have been more injuries too.

    Thanks!
