Yup and the erratic braking of the Active Cruise Control is like that as well. The car’s emergency braking logic errs on the overly-protective side.

Mini told me what the strange random steering vibration was. It's been off since then until last night. I was very, very tired last night and decided it was a good idea to have it back on.
I've had the collision thing hit the brakes once. This was how I found out it worked. My brakes activated just before my foot reached them. I was pretty close and braking was needed to keep my car looking nice.

Good to know it works! Do you think you car would still look nice if you didn't hit the brakes at all?

The few times I’ve experienced it in our sihtty traffic here, it engaged before my foot reached the pedal — and I was paying full attention in those driving conditions — and ABS was invoked. It knew to mash the brakes. I couldn’t have done better.

    Various thoughts:

A cyclist decided to dash across a street right in front of the car just as the light turned green for me and I was setting off. Braking was sudden and effective. Not sure what was more surprising - the idiocy of the cyclist or the speed of the system!

I too have had road surface trigger the frontal collision warning due to heaved up pavement. Again, surprising!

Otherwise frontal collision warning has been random and not particularly helpful at speed. It has gone off with plenty of space between the car in front and not particularly urgent closing rate and other times no warning when I would have expected one…

I must not have lane keeping assist on my trim level - or it’s off - never have felt steering vibrations.
