In the MINI Connected app I've noticed Europeans (and elsewhere?) seem to have electrical consumption measured in kWh/100 km whereas in the US we have mi/kWh. Here are examples: Using an EV energy calculator: 23.5 kWh/100 km = 4.3 km/kWh 22.2 kWh/100 mi = 4.5 mi/kWh Which led me to find this Tesla thread on Watt-Hours per Mile vs. Miles per KWH. Based on the comments the US-style mi/kWh is a less efficient way to show energy cost and is clearly a holdover from the ICE-age mpg. Personally I think I'd prefer the kWh/100 mi since that gives an indication of how far one can travel for each percentage of the battery. I'm curious what others think.
I prefer the kWh/100 miles because when I drive a car, it is to cover miles and not just to burn kWh. Think about it. I'm going on a trip that's, say, 50 miles. I care about how many kWh I will use. I don't go out to use, say 11 kWh, and then wonder how many miles I will travel. kWh/100 miles just makes sense.
