The low quality of the backup camera annoys me every time I back up. Our 2014 Leaf and my daughter's 2016 Subaru Legacy cameras are far superior. I remember thinking when we first bought it, well, it's only a backup camera, it doesn't need to be high resolution, but I have just not gotten used to it, and don't trust it in lower light situations.

The problem is not the camera - it is the design of the housing for the camera, which seems very efficient at directing airflow so the camera lens gets as dirty as possible as quickly as possible. You need to clean the lens every time you get in the car. Especially up here in Vermont where we use a ton of road salt.

Meanwhile, the right-hand mirror camera never seems to get dirty. Always sharp as a tack. Better air flow design, I guess.

I pointed out the flaw in an on-line satisfaction survey sent to me by e-mail from Honda.

In my Clarity, the Lanewatch camera is sharp and clear but the back up camera is worse than other cars I've driven.
