I'm thinking of buying a EV and installing a Level 2 charger in the garage. I live in the Phoenix area and my garage is 90 to 100 degrees for 6 months a year. Is this a problem? Will it over heat? Also is my battery charge not going last as long in this hot climate?
It depends on the quality of the Battery Management System. Better cars will run the A/C to keep the battery at a good temperature and moderate the charge rate. For example, our Tesla cooling fan was running hard while the charge rate was low on a recent trip. One problem are the large number of first generation EVs. Reviewers are finding the quality of EV designs often have a few gems surrounded by 'business as usual.' My recommendation is to go for a second or third model year EV as the manufacturers correct their early design issues. Bob Wilson
