    Hi All,

My hyundai had a bad pothole hit, which resulted in Tie rod bent, alignment repair and the dealership says the battery needs to be replaced as the coolant sensor has warnings. The Car is new with just 10000 miles on it with no other visual damages outside and drivable as well. The Hyundai dealer says the battery is a must replacement as they cannot fix the battery cooling sensor which is inside the battery. The battery cannot be opened to fix the sensor. They asked me forcing me to call the insurance and listed the cost of new battery as $38000. I bout the car last year in october with list price being $36k. Can the sensor be just a false alert with the pothole hit on battery metal casing? What are my options as the dealer says the car might get totaled? Thank you

Hi Pramod, sounds like you got very unlucky there. I've not heard of anything similar before. Coolant and temperature control of your battery if very important so I doubt the dealer would allow you to continue driving while that alert is visible, and still honor your warranty.

  4. First thing is that one of the five (?) sensor locations doesn’t give sensible readings, perhaps because nothing is fitted. That’s normal and you need to ascertain that this is not the concern.

If in fact one of the four actual sensors has failed (it seems highly unlikely in my opinion) then it is the role of your insurance company to process your claim.

In some countries a specialist EV mechanic would simply repair it.
