There are surely some aware people at GM. They have to know both natural gas and hydrogen have no future because they are frauds. Natural gas doesn't work economically and it doesn't politically and it doesn't work in terms of physics and first principles against battery electric or even wind and that goes tripple for hydrogen. Right now you can get utility scale battery backed full replacement for every kind of natural gas application for 1 cents a kwh. For comparison you can't get even tax exempted hyper subsidized natural gas for under 6 cents a kwh- its never going to get cheaper and hydrogen is 3x that price and will never be cheaper when derived from naural gas than natural gas. And hydrogen is more expensive still when derived from green. Won't be long before battery backed roof top solar is .02 cents kwh- power your whole house for 50 years and costs 10k. Thats 300x cheaper even without subsidies or exemptions than subsidized exempted natural gas and 900x cheaper than hydrogen from natural gas. And there are no niche applications like aviation or marine these can run to- electric can and will do it all and do it cheaper. Rocketry will be done from green sources. GM knows its got terminal cancer. It knows it can't go on much longer.

Bara doesn't have to care. She is one of the first women to reach the corporate pinnacle and she presided over a brief resurgence. That is enough. GM knows its bound to be merged with Ford which is still a family run company. Look up the connection between the Family behind Ford and the Family behind VW.

GMs distracting daliances with start ups are just distractions. As are its attempts to rev up derivative laden JP Morgan with the hydrogen fraud. And its attempt to partner with Honda which was almost recently merged with Nissan by the Japanese government- more distractions. Its little rendered Nikola like

props (electric motor canisters etc.) are likely vaporware- Bara admitted a similar mindset to Trevor Milton. GM had its own battery day and in answering questions and not knowing basic battery terminology GM execs showed they knew as much as Trevor Milton about his hydrogen vaporware- Milton admitted in a presentation he didn't know what the acronym that was part of the title of the core of the hydrogen vaporware tech he was trying to peddle stood for. These little trinket electric motors that GM keeps showing look to be more of the same. They don't look like the kinds of things that would even allow a frunk- missing in the Lyric.

Tesla's stuff has been open sourced in the past. Musk doesn't believe in motes. He says the rate of innovation is key. My guess is GM thinks it can reverse engineer Tesla's stuff in China and sell it everywhere as their own. I've wondered why Xpeng would come through the filthy Caymen islands and have a nasty Caymans shell holding corp (ever) especially as a start up. And bother to be listed through depository shares or even pass muster with a US exchange- who helped it? And it got sued by Tesla for theft of IP. I wonder now the same about Lucid especially given its close proximity 20 miles from the non existant Nikola factory. Are these also GM inspired attemps? The Lucid Aire in appearance is a cross between a GM Oldsmobile Aurora and an Xpeng P7. Lucid seems to want to be Nike and Apple and Tesla. So have the start ups try to steal then GM acquires them? Compartmentalize theft? GM has a handful of other little start ups it hopes to reconstitute its former parts bin brand structure with including Workhorse, Lordstown, Altris (apparent) and Nikola. Remember it did Maven and played this game with Cruz- but maybe what it was trying to do was get AP stuff through Xpeng?

If it wants someone to teach it to clone Tesla its probably not Munro it goes to China. GM has been making electric starter motors and lead acid batteries for a long time. But part of its problem is it doesn't know how to make anything original any more and it can't attract people who do.

But here's the thing, it would be much easier for GM to start to try to reproduce the newest iphone and take on Apple in cell phones than reproduce a Tesla. I think it wasn't long after Bara thought she could force feed Tesla one of the plants she threw away and acted like it was her right that Tesla started targeting 20 million cars a year. I don't think cheating, stealing, lying and frauding will work. All that GM market share lost and all those plant closures and still 25 billion in stock buybacks and 25 billion on ads recently Its not working. GM couldn't even reproduce the first Model S from even a decade ago. And GM like BMW keeps running negative ads infomercials on Tesla quality when Tesla quality will soon be by far the best just as a function of the drive toward precision automated solid state. Teslas finances and scope will far, far beyond anything GM ever contemplated. GM is redundant, it has no mission and no focus- its passive.

GM's only chance would be to try to license Tesla tech but I would hope Tesla would never allow them to do that with out that being common knowledge everywhere.
