Prior to apparent corruption between Nevada and its Buffet backed sole utility Natural Gas provider to retroactively roll back its citizen's net metering agreements and scew them over with huge punitive bills Solar City was doing fine. But that corruption drove Solar City from the sunniest market. Once they were driven out by this corruption Nevada cleaned up their net metering slightly. Then after the acquisition Trump did the stupid solar tariff plan to try to save un-savable natural gas. But Solar City as a Musk related company was and is crucial to the companies because citizen/consumers must have a way of cutting the cord on non competing fossil fuel rent seeker monopolies that are not only idiotically allowed profit without competition and then even more idiotically they have profit guaranteed by the state when even with no competition and lap dog regulators and price increases that have them charging and getting away with rates 3x on captive citizens that at cost rural cooperative charge for the same product, if they are down on profit incredibly the state guarantees them a 10% because they are a deflation hedge just like the private fed bank scam- where the banks we are hearing are actually owned by Brit banks as if the revolutionary war didn't happen. But worse than all of that, crap PPP utilities are allowed to advertise in what amounts to self promoting propaganda on their stupid Ronald Coece style fraud with forced private tax or defacto public tax dollars. If someone invested in Tesla and they didn't understand it was mission first they are stupid- it doesn't exist to enrich parasites and saboteurs- there are no guarantees in such a fight, losses and at least volatility are par for the obviously foreseeable course. If solar city was down that made it a bargain. Also, given Musk's share in Tesla he had skin in the game on the risk. This has the same sort of idiot logic as saying cars are safer because of higher emissions and then trying to hit companies with anti trust for trying to act in the public's interest on emissions or attempting to take away California's emissions standards then saying CA isn't doing enough and needs its highway funds pulled.
