So, this seems to be THE place for Clarity users (at least the 20 of us who found the place). As more topics/discussion is generated, it might be useful to create some topics under this section to post under. There are a number of EV forums and they all do it differently. However, maybe a few umbrella topics like "Buying/Leasing", "Technical/Charging", "Troubleshooting", "Tricks/Mods". I'm just throwing stuff out there. Mods, any plans or am I out of line with this request?
Out of curiosity, can this be done with tagging? I actually don't like separated out forums with different categories (I am okay with a few, but if they have 20 categories there is a good chance I will never look in most of them). If you could tag a post with the category you want, you can have filters on the posts that would only look at the ones of interest.
there are several possible solutions, subforums and tagging are one. benefit of tagging is you don't have the dilution risk like subforms. for either you need some critical mass, so nothing is dead, especially with subforms. easier to try tags first and then later easy to create subforms if enough usage.
So, I understand I may be able to work something out for this using thread prefixes. Today's a bit crazy because it's sales day and the Jaguar I-Pace is being revealed at 1:00 EST, so I might oonly be able to try something out tomorrow. Any more topic suggestions are welcome.
Ok, I think it's time to bring this up again. The way this forum is set up, people keep creating new threads with the same questions because they can't see it's already been answered. I know that happens everywhere, but its particularly bad here because it's just a single forum section for every single type of question related to these cars. People can't drill down to an area of interest and we all know that search is terrible. On other sites, people tend to gravitate towards topics of interest. I personally don't care how much people paid for their cars and what kind of deal they got. I DO enjoy talking about EVSEs and charging technology. Therefore I stay in those topics and help people there without having to see the 147th new post about how when I filled up with gas, my car suddenly had 1000 miles of range. I think if the Clarity takes off, it would be nice to have access to a forum that has more structure (e.g. TMC, M3OG, MyNissanLeaf) so real communities can form around topics of interest. Maybe that's just not the intent of this particular forum as it's tied to a (really good) media outlet so maybe the goal is mainly to discuss the news articles, which is very valid and important. If so I may just be looking for the wrong thing in the wrong place.
I totally agree. This forum is very unwieldy and we are getting multiple threads on the same topic which wastes time and slows down the dissemination of knowledge. I used to have a Tacoma and their main forum was so much easier to use. Just go to Tacomaworld.com and see what I mean and see what we’re all missing. If I were computer savvy, I’d start one just from frustration over this one.
I think we would all like to know about the three warnings that come up then go away? Sent from my iPad using Inside EVs
I know I can sticky certain threads, and am open to doing it, but probably sparingly, as Rob says it's not a good practice. But, I don't mind giving it a shot. Alan, since you and Ken are super familiar with the Clarity section, feel free to suggest the two which you'd most like stickied and we'll give it a go. As far as EVSE's go as a topic, I was planning on creating a thread with @Tom Moloughney to cover a least some of the basics, but if you think there's enough interest for a whole sub-category, I'm not opposed to trying it. Regarding the structure, we have the same software as Ferrari Chat. I linked it there so you can take a look and see if it has the sort of structures you'd like to see here.
I can sticky a couple things within a sub-category, and asked Alan above to make a couple suggestions which he'd like to see. Please feel free to make a couple suggestions as well.
Domenick, although I appreciate your moderation of this forum, please take a look at the forum tacomaworld.com and be envious, be very envious. If anything drives your “customers” to migrate to another forum, it will be for one that has features like that forum. After you’ve tried it, post what you think of it vs this one.
Yeah, it looks pretty good. Lots of navigation help. A couple things I didn't like as much, but it definitely looks quite functional. I know we can improve this one, though. As I mentioned above to Alan, we have the same software as Ferrari Chat. Take a look there, and if you see something they've implemented that can make this one better, please let me know.
