So, Turbo tax doesn't have the fed tax credit form 8936 for 2018 yet. I want to file this asap so what are the other options........anyone filed already? Sent from my SM-N960U using Inside EVs mobile app
I heard from another forum that the tax form has not been updated due to the government shutdown. You should wait till the IRS gets back to work...
I only found a draft for the 2018 form 8936. Turbo tax also suggests there might be an EVSE form available at some point.
I tried to use yesterday on TurboTax, it says 8936 will be available by Jan 31st. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
Do you need any kind of proof that you purchased an EV vehicle when filing your taxes through TurboTax or any other online site? Would it be different if you file with a CPA? I am unsure on how I will file this year’s taxes due to the EV credit. I will file married status, 2 kids, just one W-2, pretty straightforward. Any thoughts or past experiences anyone could share?
I thought that you file this form only when you are filing your taxes (not before). Are you filing your taxes at this time? Can one submit the form before officially filing taxes?
Some of us are filing taxes. I got my W-2 about 2 weeks ago. The rest of of it came last week. It is officially the beginning of tax season.
Just for fun I tried H&R Block and taxact software and both gave me the option for adding the EV credit, only TurboTax has asked me to wait til 1/31 when they will have the tax form available, has anyone noticed that?
Yes, TurboTax gave me 1/31 expected available date for EV credit form. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
I checked and you are able to plug in the numbers and it affects your return but later on it tells you that the forms are not ready yet. New date is 2/7.
Just finished filing with H&R Block online and entered all info for my car when asked & tax return gave the $7,500 credit to be refunded and also e-filed & printed a 2018 8936 form with the return. You must file using deluxe version or higher
