Engadget posted this piece about the winning car on this year's Hillclimb, and it set not only the EV record, but the record for all vehicles: I grew up in Colorado Springs (long before Pikes Peak was a asphalt amusement park ride) and all I can say is INCREDIBLE!
Congratulations to Volkswagen for its record run. But I'm not convinced that the average car buyer today is that impressed by a company's race car records. The day was when an auto manufacturer would show off its cutting edge tech at high-profile races. But we don't see the tech from race cars trickling down to ordinary mass production cars anymore. In my opinion, records like this may give an auto maker bragging rights, but it's not going to influence the decision of anybody I know regarding which car to buy.
