Suspect it is too late for BMW, but after Diesel Gate, VW is now headed by possibly the only person from BMW c-suit who was able to get it, Herb Diess. Seems like VW may survive. When the VW head said they have to avoid becoming Nokia that presents a ray of hope that they may turn the company around in time. More positive on Daimler than BMW because at least Daimler halted ICE development and actually bought in to Tesla when it was an upstart pure BEV play maker. If things don't go well with VW no one will be able to blame its CEO.
He has started to demonstrate a remarkable level of honesty and clarity. Very encouraging.

i think model 3 demand and tesla's rise kinda kicked a few in the head and wake up.
they have what, 70 some percent of the electric sales market in norway?
and i think vw's e golf does well and build can't keep up to demand.
and of course after diesel gate, ignoring emissions isn't going to work either.
    it's the final choice left.

My thinking too. The BMW i3-REx was exceptional when it came out and then they brought out the silly i8; sold off their carbon fiber manufacturing, and; let the engineering team go. Now their products are Tesla fodder.

I'm not so confident as much as I suspect VW wants to get a return on investment from Electrify America. They have seen a lot of Tesla conquest sales too.

All of the car makers are seeing a erosion of their premium brands to Tesla. These are their primary, profit centers and Tesla is taking it away. They are trying to compete but their first generation are weak.
