From their FAQ: I still plan to join at least the initial legs, starting in Burlington VT and going into New York.
It looks to me like the spreadsheet includes Mini models other than the SE, correct? Given that, it would be helpful if people would put the model into the third column as well as the year. (e.g., a few of these are convertibles and others are in colors not available for the SE). It appears the response times may be very different for different models. Do I understand correctly?
I think getting any new car might be a challenge now, and maybe even used ones. Tesla isn't delivering, and now Mach-E production is stalled for six weeks. The chip shortage is hitting everyone.
I think a Countryman Plug-in (PHEV) found its way into the spreadsheet. Other than that all SEs, I believe.
I decided this past weekend to put in an order for an SE. I filled out the $250 "get in line" form and was chatting via text with my local dealer within half an hour. I had never even sat in a Mini before so needed a test fit and drive. Later Sunday afternoon I drove to the dealer and test drove a 2021 S (ice). Loved it, as I suspected I would. Said let's do it! They had a couple of available order slots and used one for my order. Have a confirmed order number! And the waiting begins! I filled out the build sheet. Signature trim in BRG with the driver convenience package and HUD and that's it. Oh...all weather floor mats. Rob
In 2019, when I was googling "MINI Cooper SE" over-and-over, I cursed MINI many times for calling both cars "SE." Even "MINI Cooper SE -Countryman" pulled up mostly Countryman hybrids.
I'm just starting to get educated on this stuff and after reading a long thread of the posts on timing, waits, production cycles (and glitches), shipping (and delays).....I just say UGH and I guess I should start to practice patience and not start getting antsy. We ordered our SE on the 28th of July and so far nothing from the dealer (no Production #). Since I'm a natural born tracker, I can't wait to get something where I can see that it is at least in the queue. It looks like some people got their Prod # in days and others in lots of weeks. I hate to bug my salesman, but will give him another week and ask again. He said they posted a status saying "Status 112-Ready for Production; Mini can start assembling parts at will. Production Scheduled for early Oct" So I guess for the next 6-8 weeks, it will just sit in the limbo queue? (We made the decision that we should be able to go carless here in downtown San Francisco, and so far it's working. But waiting till sometime in November seems like it may test me a bit.) Oh well.........wait and see! ;-(
@Linda Hawkins if they reported a production status and expected start date, they should have a Production # you can ask for.
Makes sense, Michael. I've just sent another note so we'll see what I get back. Thanks for the suggestion.
Having the production number is a curse. It's a curse because the production number along with MINI's My Garage give the illusion that you can actually track the progress of your MINI's construction. Many customers find themselves visiting that website many times a day in the futile hope something will change. Some of those hopeful customers are disappointed by seeing their car's progress stall. Others even see their car's progress regress. There are a few happy customers who are surprised to find their MINIs arriving long before the site would have led them to expect. They, too, are unhappy with MINI's faulty tracking system. And why can you call MINI to sometimes get better information than is available online? Who updates the website anyway? Then there's the curse of learning on which boat your MINI is traveling across the ocean...should you spend the money to obtain its exact satellite-updated location or just wait for it to get close to shore when the location info is free? I guess I sound like Debbie Downer here. My SE was worth my 51-week wait. Fortunately, half of that post-order waiting was before SE production began, so I didn't spend those early days refreshing my browser window over and over.
Haha. I should have been more explicit. I've nothing better to do than wait WEEKS while my SE (non-Countryman) is in the Body shop.
This is to be expected from a custom built car but "they" really need to rethink the information they provide and how they provide it. Expectations are set by what information they provide through all of the channels (Dealer/MA, Website, and Ask-MINI). I'd rather be told less that is more accurate than more which is wildly inaccurate. My excitement about this car has dropped significantly - precipitously close to an IDGAF level. Fortunately the 2021 Porsche Taycan we took delivery of three weeks ago has been nothing but a real pleasure to drive and admire in my garage. The Taycan tracked superbly and aligned nearly perfectly with the dealer's communicated expectations. This MINI Cooper SE will be serving as a true daily driver for my spouse. I've stopped checking several times per day on the SE's status. In the words of Forrest Gump - "That's All I Have To Say About That".
Yep - mine is the Countryman and technically it is an SE. I added a comment with my first post to remove if it was out of bounds for this forum. The Countryman SE is produced at the same plant in Oxford, and my understanding is that they freely intermix all the models on the production line (i.e. not all Copper SE one day and Countryman SE the next). My vehicle is on a ship that is on its way from Halifax to New York, then to Baltimore, and then to my dealer. Ironically, I am now in England - we probably flew over the ship on our way here a few days ago! Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
