Has anyone come up with great ideas for personalized vanity plates for their Clarity? The 7 letter/digit limitation in Michigan makes it difficult. I haven't come up with a good Clarity plate yet. Unless I do, I'll probably just transfer my old Insight's "IGO ECO" plate to the Clarity. My wife's gen 2 Insight wears "IGOECO2" because I couldn't come up with anything better. Back in 2000, I met an Insight owner whose plate read "NO PLUG." He wanted to help explain that his hybrid electric car made its own electricity. It made sense to me then--I thought it was good that I could drive around without having to plug in my car first. How wrong I was! For a joke, I keep thinking about dangling a 120-volt plug from the back of our Clarity. The majority voter in our family votes "no," however.
Nothing but letters, numbers, and spaces (which count as a letter or digit)--and it can't use the same pattern as a non-vanity plate. Plus, there's an enormous database file of banned combinations. It appears the Volt crowd has already snapped up all the plates with PLUG or VOLT in them.
Tough to resist a "CLARITY" plate for this car. It was already taken in Michigan when I checked more than 2 years ago.
It's pretty easy to get good vanity plates in Delaware because 1) it's so small and 2) it's pretty expensive -- $50 a year extra.
When we were playing around with ideas for our Michigan personalized plates, we came up with a few: WATTSUP AMP UP EPOWER OHMKICK WATTMAN GOODAMP VOLTAGE PLUGPWR WATTETR In the end, we went with GR8TLKS, since we are the Great Lakes state.
I'm surprised that well-chosen plate was still available. I've been playing around on the Secretary of State's vanity plate page and most of the ones I come up with are already taken.
I can't say our vanity plate is really very good, clever or apt - we brought it over from our old Odyssey - PENGUIN1. It does seem a bit appropriate considering the Clarity body shape, though, with that bit of a bulge near the rear. It's amazing how many people stop to ask me what it means, which is always good for a 10 minute conversation.
