I recently purchased a used 2020 kona and about 3 weeks ago the WoF clicking started. I was aware this was a possible problem before buying the car thanks to you all, thank you, and recently replaced the oil and put in a magnetic plug. Seeing as we have narrowed down the problem thanks to our friends are Car Repair Videos
I came across this kit online to fix the problem but they don't ship to the US. Anyone know where to source the bearings in the US?

  2. They should be relatively easy to source once you have the gearbox apart and can measure everything. All I have are what I understand to be the generic part numbers for the input and intermediate shaft ball bearings. It's likely that they will need spacers as well to match the width of the originals, but also parts easily obtainable from SKF or any other bearing supplier in the US. Some have not bother with replacing the tapered rollers on the output shaft as they pretty rugged. I'm sure you already know to delete the internal magnet and rely solely on the magnetic plug.

Thanks Kiwime your a wealth of information and have helped so many Kona owners.

I'm looking into this at the moment in case of a failure. One thing that I'm wonder is are there any reports of actual failure of the GRU on the Kona and other models that use the same GRU? I see lots of hyundai replaced it because of the noise but no posts, "the car won't move", I broke down posts, or reports of that.

  4. There has been at least one report of a catastrophic failure where the gearbox housing cracked open. But the reason for the failure was not indicated and I recall it happened over a short period. It’s really not a scenario you should worry about.

They ship to the USA and Canada upon request, so just ask and provide your address. Additionally, VAT will be deducted from the price since the order is shipped from the EU.
