  1. My Kona uses an SD card to update navigation, and I installed the most recent version (Oct 2023) a few months ago. At first everything ran fine, but the display increasingly lagged and then the map began to freeze. The dealer was stumped; at first so was MapNSoft, the software provider. But when I mentioned to them in passing that I used a microSD card with adapter for nav updates, the bells went off. The MapNSoft tech stated that one must use a standard SD card. Believing that the two formats were electrically identical, I was skeptical. But swapping to a standard SD card (in this case the original Hyundai card) resolved the issue!

This case is an outlier, and I don't know of other situations where the two formats are not interchangeable, but I put it out there for those with first gen navigation who might think, as I did, that a newer format might load faster. Who knew?
